Welcome

My name is Sabreena. I am an on-location, natural light photographer. My passion is capturing the natural interactions of families and turning them into lasting memories and pieces of art. Photographs have a way of bringing us back to a time or place that can be easily forgotten.

As the owner of Photography by Sabreena, I want to provide you with the ultimate Custom Photography experience. This means that I travel to you and take the photographs in a location where you and your family are most comfortable - thus resulting in natural, relaxed, and fun family portraits. I specialize in maternity, newborn, children, family, high school senior, and engagement portraits.

Below you will find samples of recent sessions, fun facts about myself and my family, and an assortment of other random fun "stuff". I really enjoy receiving comments, so please let me know you are out there!

Enjoy, and please don't hesitate to contact me. EMAIL: pbsabreena(at)gmail.com

Home Sweet Home! {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Portrait Photographer}

First I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all my client’s and their patience while I was away. It is not easy to leave, especially for 2 weeks, when you have a small business to run. My great client’s make it all worth it though.

I am hesitant to say I was on “Vacation” because when you are involved in a wedding and the wedding preparations that go along with it, it doesn’t often feel like a vacation even if you are far away. With that being said, it was fun to meet my sister-in-laws family and to make new friends. The wedding turned out to be the most beautiful wedding I have ever attended and the wedding photographers were AWESOME! There are no photos up from my brother’s wedding yet (watch for Neal & Sandy), however, you can check out some of their work here:

As a photographer you would expect me to have tons and tons of photos to show…right?!? Well, it is not the case unfortunately. I do have a few, but I truly took a vacation from taking photos for the most part.

Here is Sarah in my brother’s backyard for his BBQ Bash before the wedding:

I took Sarah to the beach with grandma to see the sunset. Unfortunately, it was hazy so no sunset was to be seen….however, she can now say she has seen the ocean and surfers :)

Last, but not least, we did something very fun on our last day…we went to Sea World. The whole time we were in San Diego it was HOT….the day we go to Sea World, it was a chilly 68 degrees! My daughter’s only request the whole trip was to sit in the “Splash Zone” for the Shamu show….this proves I will do almost anything for my kids, including getting splashed by freezing cold salt water on a very chilly day! My brother took these shots for me…

Expecting Baby {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Maternity & Neweborn Photographer}

Michigan weather makes photography a bit challenging sometimes. We had challenges with finding a day to do this session and then the day we finally get schedule there is a 50/50 chance of thunderstorms. Well, I have learned that unless it is down pouring out to take the chance and I am SO glad we did. It ended up being a beautiful night with a beautiful couple that is expecting their first little miracle. It actually started to rain just as I was leaving the session, so I think it was meant to be. I promised I would get a few previews up for them before leaving for California tomorrow….

So here we go…

2 more days…{Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Maternity, Newborn, Family, Children, & High School Senior Photographer}

Well, the count down continues…2 more days and I will be on a plane to sunny San Diego, CA. YIKES!!!

Once I am on the plane I will be fine, but it is the anticipation prior to that is sending the butterflies in  my stomach spinning.

I have had a record number of sessions within a short period of time because of the amount of time I will be gone. I had to make sure to squeeze in maternity sessions along with a couple senior sessions and a family session. I have another maternity tonight and then a high school senior tomorrow…then away I go.

So here is a brief view of some of the sessions from this past week…

This first session is with a high school senior. She is the cutest thing and SO SMART and down to earth. I kept thinking, “I want my daughter to be like her when she is a teenager!” Here’s hoping ;)

This one is a bit more dramatic then I normally do, but I totally love it!

Okay, for this next session there is sweet 1 yr old, Mr. “B” and his family. He has the biggest smiles and they lasted the WHOLE session! What a dream to photographer, and such a good looking family to go with the smiles.

I am such a sucker for sweet mommy cuddles…

Last, but not least, is a family that I photographed 2 years ago. They are now expecting an addition to their beautiful family and I can not wait to meet her! I feel truly blessed to get to photograph this family through this new life change.

Mom and her 3 girls:

These two sisters were so adorable and I couldn’t help but continue to photograph them when mom when to change. The sister bond is something that is a truly amazing thing!

This last photo is one of my favorites from the session. I love everything about it from mom’s perfect belly to the beautiful blue colors, to the connection between mom and baby.

I am hoping to get previews up for my next two sessions before I leave on Wednesday morning, but it may just be too much. If I don’t get those up look for wedding photos from my brother’s wedding and maybe a few beach and Sea World photos soon. :D

Scheduling a Portait Session {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Portrait Photographer}

I just wanted to take care of some house-cleaning…

I will be leaving July 14th and will not be home again until July 28th. I am heading to Southern California for my baby brother’s wedding. The big question is…”Are you photographing the wedding?” and the answer is…NOPE! :) I am going to just enjoy and watch my 6 yr old be the flower girl. It is just my daughter and I going so it will be a little adventure for us.

If you are wanting to schedule a session, whether it be for summer portraits, or fall, you need to give me a call ASAP. July is completely booked up at this point. Weekends are all booked up until the beginning of September with the exception of a few Sunday afternoon sessions (Sundays sessions are an additional $25 for the session fee).

I have more availability during the week in August, however, those dates are filling up fast as well.

And because I can not post without photo…here are some photos of me (yikes…not sure I like being on the other side of the camera) and my girls. It isn’t very often I get to be in photos with my girls so when I do I cherish them! I HUGE THANK YOU to my dear friend, photographer, and designer, Leah.

Beautiful Family Portraits {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Family Portrait Photographer}

I ♥ this family!! I have been photographing their family way back when they were only a family of 3. They have now grown into a family of 4 and are as beautiful as ever! Thank you G family for not only being wonderful to photograph but for also being such great people.

Fashion Friday {Photography by Sabreena - Family & Children Portrait Photographer}

SIDE NOTE: This was supposed to be out on Friday, however, due to food poisoning I was in bed all day not sure if I was going to make it to the next day. So it is a couple days late but here it is!

I want to try and do a new series to help families better be able to visualize what clothing is going to work best together for family portraits.

So it looks like red is going to be a big color this summer and fall and I am loving it! I have to say that it is harder to find variety in the boys/young men clothing. The girls have so many cute choices!

The kids clothes were found at Gymboree:

The Women’s clothes are from Old Navy:

The Men’s clothes are from Banana Republic:

One other side note…I will be out of town from July 4th until July 7th with limited email/internet access. I do not have a fancy phone yet where I can get emails and my cell phone service is very limited where we are going. I will respond as soon as I can when I get home. Thanks!

Being Grateful…

I purchased a “Gratitude Journal” from Paper Source last Christmas for myself, with the intention of writing in it ‘almost’ everyday. A lot of times my good intentions fall by the wayside when life’s everyday activities fill up my schedule. After re-organizing my office I came across the journal again and decided I would try again and make this part of my work routine.

What I have found is that it is easy to write about what you are grateful for when the kids are being perfect angels, when the laundry is all caught up, when a trip to the grocery store goes exactly as planned. On the flip side, it is hard to write about being grateful when things are not going as expected.

I have also learned that it is MORE important to write down what I am grateful for on these more challenging, less then perfect days. Below is a recent entry example…

June 26, 2010

Yes, my kids seem to be in a constant state of war with each other; And the words “That’s Enough! Do NOT look at each other, Do NOT touch each other, Do NOT say a WORD to each other until you have something nice to say!” seem to be a tape recorded message coming out of my mouth every couple hours.

But I have two healthy, generally happy and well behaved little girls who know that their parents love them no matter what. That is what I am thankful for today; That and nap time! :D

Okay, On to the pictures. The pictures fall into another category of thankfulness. I am SO VERY grateful for the friends that I have made at my wonderful church (Heart of the Shepherd). This family makes me smile every time I come in contact with them and what a wonderful gift to give to another person!

So without further adieu here is a beautiful slide-show and a few of my favorites from the session…

Dani - Class of 2011 {Photography by Sabreena; Michigan High School Senior Portrait Photographer}

Dani is so beautiful and so tall! I actually found out after talking to her mother through a couple emails before the session that we are related through my husband. Dani’s mother is my husband’s cousin.

Here is a short little video of Dani’s session. I will post some photos in the next couple days.
