Engagement Photographs

9 Years {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Family Portrait Photographer}

Today is my  9 year wedding anniversary! I can’t believe 9 years have gone by so quickly, which is a total testimony to my wonderful husband. We have been through our share of ups and downs in our life, but each year our marriage has gotten stronger and stronger. I think this is a testimony to our love and our faith.

Thank you Steve for being a wonderful son, brother, uncle, father, husband, and most importantly my best friend!

I ♥ You!

Sweet, Sweet Love…{Photography by Sabreena - Jackson, Michigan - Engagement Photographer}

I am so excited for this couple’s upcoming wedding in August! We did some engagement photos in the fall, however, it was SO cold and they have such a great property that I asked to do another shoot in the spring. I have only had time to edit these 2 photos so far because of a busy week photographing 90 preschoolers, toddlers and babies at Heart of the Shepherd Child Care Development Center (which was a blast by the way).

Anyway, here is this one for now and I will post more later….OH…and checkout the posts at http://www.lsweddingphotography.com/blog/. My great friend and wedding photography partner will be posting some great photos as well.

Cancer :-( {Photography by Sabreena - Howell, Michigan}

Many of you know that my husband works for the American Cancer Society and that I am part of an organization called “Think Pink”. I am also the co-captian for a Relay for LIfe team through my church, Heart of the Shepherd.

This week I received a call from a client. I have been photographing this client and her family pretty much from the beginning of my photography career. In fact, I think they may have been the first family I photographed that wasn’t a friend or family member.

Anyway, She called this week to tell me that February 13th she found out she had breast cancer. My heart immediately sunk when she told me this. She went on to tell me that she had a double mastectomy and, praise the Lord, they got all the cancer and she does not need to go through Chemo. She told me on the phone, “The mastectomy is a small price to pay.”

She also went on to tell me that the photographs I have taken of her and her family have come to mean SO much more to her. They are not just pictures, they are priceless memories.

I truly love my job because my clients quickly become my friends. It makes it hard to hear news like this, but it makes me proud that my husband and I are part of such great organizations who give back to people going through the aweful trials of cancer.

She asked me to design a card that she will be able to send out to friends and family to explain what she has been going through. Here is what I came up with:

I have several HUGE favors to ask of everyone that reads this blog.

(1) I need you to ask 5 women over the age of 40 if they have had their mammograms

(2) I need to you post a comment on my blog that you have done this. If we can each touch the lives of 5 women, imagine how many lives that could save!

(3) Last but not least, if you are a woman: (1) Preform a self breast exam (2) get scheduled for you annual exam (3) If you are over 40 schedule a mammogram

THANKS!

Book now for the future… {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Photographer}

I have two main messages for this post. The first is to let everyone know that I was looking at my calendar and dates are filling up quick. I have 3 newborns due in May and 2 in June in addition to the weddings, family sessions, and childrens session.

Class of 2010, PLEASE don’t wait to book your sessions. You may think it is too early to schedule your senior photography, however, prime dates and times are going quickly.

If you are pregnant and would like to have Photography by Sabreena photograph your maternity and/or newborn session, please contact me as soon as possible. If I know when a newborn is due then I can make sure to leave some openings during that time.

My second purpose for this post is to wish everyone a Blessed Holy week and Easter Sunday. I have been so blessed with my family; my husband, who is my biggest supporter and my two beautiful girls who fill my days with endless giggles and chaos. Please remember the reason for this most holy week of the year.

The photo below was taken a year ago. I was given a challenge of a photo contest. I don’t remember the quote, but it was something about the present bringing us back to the past. This photo can be interpeted many different ways, however, my vision was of myself praying as a child and myself praying as an adult, and although I have changed, the action always remains the same…me giving thanks to my Lord.

California Dreaming {Photography by Sabreena - Howell, Michigan}

So my brother came to visit this past week with his fiance from California. They got engaged just this past Valentine’s Day….SO romantic! Of course, anytime they come to visit Michigan there just happens to be a big snow storm that blows in. I had big plans for engagement photos that were blown away with the arrival of said snow storm :( I really hate when I have a creative vision and then I don’t get to try it out! Maybe I will just have to go visit them in sunny California to do a more proper engagement session ;)

Check out the wedding site, LS Wedding Photography, for the details regarding a special we are running.

Speaking of weddings, please contact us as soon as possible if you are looking for a photographer. We already have April, June, and August booked.

And because I can’t write a post without photos, here are a few snaps I took this weekend of my brother and his fiance.

Winter Engagement - South Lyon Michigan {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Photographer}

I had so much anticipation building for this shoot because I knew it was at a historical train station in South Lyon, Michigan called the Witches Hat Train Depot and also because this bride-to-be is someone after my own heart. In our first contact she told me she was looking for someone as creative as her, since she is a dancer, to take her engagement photographs.

My creative juices were definitely flowing for this one and I actually had to get up 3 time the night before to write down ideas for poses that popped into my head. In my head I was picturing something out of a 1950’s movie with a young couple madly in love. I felt that to achieve that feel some vintage textures would be called for in the post processing.

This couple is truly in love and it is one of the many reasons why I love engagement sessions SO much; It takes very little direction to show that this couple is meant to be together. I am just going to post a couple today…I may post a few more as I get them edited.

Okay, so you caught me…I had a hard time again choosing what to show because I love so many of them. We also did something kind of fun at the end of the session and I have put it together in a flip book style slideshow…

Sweet Survivor! - Michigan Photographer

This little girl has more spirit, more spunk, more wisdom then any young person I have ever met. I have written posts about Ms. Carly in the past. She is the youngest cancer survivor that I have had the pleasure of meeting. You can read about her story from her mom here:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/babycarly

As I sit here I can not even find the words to express the honor I felt in being able to meet Carly and her family. They have been through so much in Carly’s 2 years. For Carly it is normal to be visited by doctors and nurses and that is exactly who she figured I was. It was so sweet when she would say, “Nurse, come sit here”. But with all of the highs and lows that this family has been through, more then anything, it was so evident the love they have for each other.

One other thing about Carly…..She is a GENIUS! She had my camera figured out in about 2 seconds. I showed her 1 time how to view the photos on the back and it wasn’t long before she had figured out the functions of the other buttons as well.

If you would like to help in any way, you can purchase bracelets off of her website (listed above) to help cover medical bills.
