Urban Shoots…

When most people think of locations for children or family portraits they think of nice parks, or fields, or lakes….all great locations for portraits, by the way.

How many of you think of cities and alleys for a photo shoot? My guess is not many….

BUT, there are such great colors and textures within the city setting.

If you would like to try a photo shoot like this, PLEASE let me know!

I went and played in my lovely city of Howell with another photographer friend of mine Leah H.

She has the sweetest little girl who was so great at letting us take her photo in this great Petti skirt that I have.

Memorial Day…

I know I am a week behind on this, but I hope everyone had a wonderful memorial day!

I had a wonderful day with my family….one of those days you want to burn into your memory forever.

We went into town for a - Father / Daughter - photo shoot with my husband and two girls. Upon arriving up town we realized we were just in time for the Howell Memorial Day Parade. Although the parade only lasted about 20-30 minutes Sarah said, “That was the best parade ever!” The teenagers next to us kept laughing every time she said that. It was a very emotional parade with all of the war veterans and wives of soldiers that are still over seas. It really makes me proud and grateful to be an American.

After the parade we attempted some photos….however, the age group of 2-5 year olds can be a tough one, ESPECIALLY when she is the daughter of a photographer. She either looks ever direction EXCEPT where the camera is OR she is making a goofy face. Oh well….you get what you can get.

Then we headed for a park and a wonderful picnic lunch. We finished up the afternoon with naps for everyone (including ME), then played outside in the nice green grass with our 4 legged friend, Sienna (an Australian Shepherd).

Here are a couple captures from our wonderful day…

Almost 2…

This little sweetie is almost 2 years old and what a doll!

This age group is so fun for me because it provides an extra challenge. We all know that kids at this age have their own agendas….they have a whole world to explore so why on earth would they want to sit?!?

I LOVE IT!

I love their energy, I love the wonder in their eyes as they explore new things and new environments.

Ms. K was no different….although, I have to say, she is one of the smartest 22 month olds that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!

Ms. K was a little unsure of me and my camera, and I probably scared her a little with my rendition of “Old McDonald Had a Farm”, but she did flash me a few quick smiles.

Here is a quick sneak peek from Ms. K’s session:

My Best Friend + The Love of My Life = 7 yrs and counting

I wish I had a photo to post, but my anniversary gift to my wonderful husband is a photo shoot with him and the girls. I am so very proud of my husband. He has been working so hard to help our entire family live a more healthy life style and in the process has lost close to 60 pounds!

He is handsome, patient, caring, a wonderful father, and an even MORE wonderful husband. I have been so blessed to have met him, become best friends with him, and fall completely head over heels for him. As soon as we do our photo shoot on Memorial Day, I will post some photos.

I love you Steve…Now…and FOREVER! ;)

Kerri + Eric: Engagement Session

Aside from kids, engagement sessions are becoming my second favorite type of photo shoot.
This is a long time friend of mine and her sweet guy. I get the honor of shooting their wedding as well. Thanks for putting up with all my crazy ideas! Eric - I hope the promised ice cream after the session made 2 1/2 hrs of photos worth it ;)

New Chair…

I am not big on using props for my photography, HOWEVER, I can not pass on a beautiful antique chairs. It drives my husband nuts. He was not too happy when he found out that I had located a PINK antique chair on Craig’s List - but he couldn’t say “No” when he saw my excitement when I saw the chair.

Thank you Margo for passing on such a precious heirloom to me.

I am hoping that it will get alot of use with my photography, especially with my THINK PINK session that I offer to women who are going through, or who are survivors of Breast Cancer.

Here are some snaps of my daughter sitting in it - although only after several days of pleading with her to let me take her photo and the promise of Chocolate after the session. She was a great sport!

American Hero

This week I have had a strong reminder of why photographs are so important in preserving the memories of our loved ones. One of the very first large photo shoots I did was for a very good friend of mine. It was for her Paw Paw’s (grandpa) surprise 85th birthday party. He was a POW (prisoner of war) in World War II and the US Army came to the party and presented Paw Paw with a pinning ceremony. It was quite emotional!

This week Paw Paw went into the hospital with severe stomach problems. They did surgery and had to remove most of his stomach. He is still in critical care as they are having a hard time stabilizing his vitals. Please pray for Paw Paw if you can. It is my friends dream to have him “give her away” at her wedding this October - which I will have the honor of photographing.

Here is a slide show to honor Paw Paw - You are in my prayers!

National Day of Prayer

On this day - The National Day of Prayer - I would like to introduce you all to a very special little girl.

Carly’s mom noticed a lump in her vaginal area last May. Carly was 9 1/2 months old at the time. After many doctor visits and tests, Carly was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the vagina the form is sarcoma botryoides. Carly has just had the tumor removed this past month and she is currently under going another round of Chemo.

This is one strong little girl. She is doing good, but still needs many prayers. I believe the power of prayer is so strong. Please join me in adding Carly to your prayers on this National Day of Prayer.

To view more of Carly’s story please visit her page at: http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/viewHome.do

On one of the photography forums that I go to, to learn from other fabulous photographers, we were given a challenge to create an image based on this quote:

“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.”
Nelson Mandela

This was the image that kept coming to mind for me (My 4 year old helped me with this image - she actually took the photo of me)

We pray often and it is always the same action, however, we find that we are changed through this action.
