Cancer :-( {Photography by Sabreena - Howell, Michigan}

Many of you know that my husband works for the American Cancer Society and that I am part of an organization called “Think Pink”. I am also the co-captian for a Relay for LIfe team through my church, Heart of the Shepherd.

This week I received a call from a client. I have been photographing this client and her family pretty much from the beginning of my photography career. In fact, I think they may have been the first family I photographed that wasn’t a friend or family member.

Anyway, She called this week to tell me that February 13th she found out she had breast cancer. My heart immediately sunk when she told me this. She went on to tell me that she had a double mastectomy and, praise the Lord, they got all the cancer and she does not need to go through Chemo. She told me on the phone, “The mastectomy is a small price to pay.”

She also went on to tell me that the photographs I have taken of her and her family have come to mean SO much more to her. They are not just pictures, they are priceless memories.

I truly love my job because my clients quickly become my friends. It makes it hard to hear news like this, but it makes me proud that my husband and I are part of such great organizations who give back to people going through the aweful trials of cancer.

She asked me to design a card that she will be able to send out to friends and family to explain what she has been going through. Here is what I came up with:

I have several HUGE favors to ask of everyone that reads this blog.

(1) I need you to ask 5 women over the age of 40 if they have had their mammograms

(2) I need to you post a comment on my blog that you have done this. If we can each touch the lives of 5 women, imagine how many lives that could save!

(3) Last but not least, if you are a woman: (1) Preform a self breast exam (2) get scheduled for you annual exam (3) If you are over 40 schedule a mammogram

THANKS!

Beautifully Pregnant! {Photography by Sabreena - Novi, Michigan}

So many women are so hesitant to have maternity photos done….including me….but let me say that I am SO grateful I have photos to remember when my baby girl was in my belly.

This beautiful mom is someone who honestly understands the importance of photography. I wish I would have wrote down this mom’s quote word for word, however, she said something to the effect of, “Why do I need art when photographs ARE priceless pieces of art?!”

A huge part of my job as a photographer, when I go to a session, is to help educate my clients that an 8×10 on a wall is really too small. 8×10’s were developed for albums and tables. Wall portraits should really be 11×14 or larger. I have 2 canvases that are 20×24 on my walls and they are my favorite pieces of art. (I will post photos of them soon)

All this to say, I was happily surprised when I walked into her home to find large portraits all over her walls! No education needed for this family! :D

Deciding which photos to post here was SO hard! I have so many favorites, but here are just a few…

I know that this mom loves black and white photos, but this little man has such beautiful eyes that I couldn’t resist showing it in color!

Blessed Day of Marriage…..

not to mention FUN FUN FUN!!!!!!!!!!

It couldn’t have been a more perfect day for these two wonderful people to get married. I have so many images to share that it is going to take a couple posts.

Some of my favorite images to capture are the details of the day. The day comes and goes so fast that it is the little things that we quickly forget.

Last but not least for today….

This was the neatest idea that I have heard of and it came from the bride. They wanted to follow tradition of not “Seeing” each other before the ceremony….however, we found a corner of the church where we were able to put the groom on one side and the bride on the other so they were able to hold hands and talk to each other just a couple minutes ahead of time. It was the sweetest moment ever!

Special Baby Boy {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Newborn Photographer}

This little guy is so special because he has 2 big sisters and his oldest sister, Miss O, prayed for a little brother every night for a very long time. This family has been blessed with the sweetest little guy. He slept the ENTIRE time I was there and let me pose him any way I wanted….so fun! I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter newborn baby or family to photograph!

Book now for the future… {Photography by Sabreena - Michigan Photographer}

I have two main messages for this post. The first is to let everyone know that I was looking at my calendar and dates are filling up quick. I have 3 newborns due in May and 2 in June in addition to the weddings, family sessions, and childrens session.

Class of 2010, PLEASE don’t wait to book your sessions. You may think it is too early to schedule your senior photography, however, prime dates and times are going quickly.

If you are pregnant and would like to have Photography by Sabreena photograph your maternity and/or newborn session, please contact me as soon as possible. If I know when a newborn is due then I can make sure to leave some openings during that time.

My second purpose for this post is to wish everyone a Blessed Holy week and Easter Sunday. I have been so blessed with my family; my husband, who is my biggest supporter and my two beautiful girls who fill my days with endless giggles and chaos. Please remember the reason for this most holy week of the year.

The photo below was taken a year ago. I was given a challenge of a photo contest. I don’t remember the quote, but it was something about the present bringing us back to the past. This photo can be interpeted many different ways, however, my vision was of myself praying as a child and myself praying as an adult, and although I have changed, the action always remains the same…me giving thanks to my Lord.

More babies…

Just wanted to post a few more photos from a recent newborn session. I just love babies and photographing them. It is such a fleeting time, it is a new beginning, it is hope, it is joy….

okay, okay, I know I am getting sappy :D

Look for a very special newborn little boy in the next week or so ;)
